Health & Well-Being: Charles’ Story

We are pleased to introduce Charles, a former resident who was profoundly impacted by the counseling services he received at Dismas House.

Charles, like many justice-involved individuals, experienced a difficult upbringing and never received the proper tools to navigate life’s challenging circumstances. When he arrived at Dismas House, he discovered a comprehensive program that holistically addressed his physical and psychological needs. Our clinical director and dedicated case manager helped Charles develop an individualized rehabilitative plan, while in-house therapy sessions fostered healing for his untreated trauma.

“I had never considered therapy before, but talking to someone regularly really helped. They helped me see that I was worth more than prison. If I wouldn’t have come to Dismas House, I would’ve been in the same boat I was in before incarceration.”

Today, Charles holds a degree from Tennessee College of Applied Technology and is currently pursuing additional licensure to become a Master Electrician. He is employed with a Dismas House workforce partner and proudly represents the transformation that takes place in our reentry program – thanks to supporters like you.

As you plan your year-end charitable contributions, please consider making an impact in the lives of more men like Charles – fathers, sons, brothers, and neighbors who deserve a fair chance in our communities. No gift is too small, and every amount contributes to breaking the cycle of incarceration.
